Our verdict: the leading open-source, offline-first alternative to Postman — your requests live as plain-text files in your own Git repo, with no account to sign up for.

Bruno is a fast, offline-first API client for testing REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket and SPARQL requests. It runs entirely on your machine — there is no account to create and no cloud sync — so your work never leaves your device unless you choose to share it.

Instead of a proprietary cloud workspace, Bruno stores each collection as plain-text .bru files that live inside your own Git repository, so requests version, diff and review like the rest of your code. The desktop app is free and MIT-licensed; optional paid Pro ($6/user/mo) and Ultimate ($11/user/mo) team tiers add organization features such as SSO/SAML and SCIM.
