Why Altapp exists

When people go looking for an alternative app, they can find plenty of opinions — vote counts, star ratings, affiliate-ranked lists. What they can't find is the security information that actually matters at the moment of download: is this binary signed, does it phone home, what can it reach once installed? That information exists, but it lives scattered across scanners, registries and release notes that almost nobody reads. Altapp exists to close that gap — every app here carries a Trust Report built from the same checks, in the same order, with dates on everything.

Our founding principle is simple: we state, we don't score. There are no numeric scores and no letter grades on Altapp, because a single number hides the reasoning it was made from. Instead, each check reports what we found and when we found it, and every claim links to evidence you can verify yourself. How the checks work is documented, in full, in our methodology.

That only works if the reports can't be bought. Verdicts are never for sale, rankings are never for sale, and if a placement is ever sponsored it is labeled and kept visually separate from organic results. When we get something wrong, we correct the report and keep the date trail visible — transparency about our own record is part of the method.

Found an app we should look at, or evidence that a report is out of date? Report an app at hello@altapp.store — every message is read, and reports that change a verdict are updated with credit to the source when wanted.
